Crime in Tallahassee and Surrounding Areas!

In the past few months there has been an increase in criminal activity across Tallahassee and Leon County. Lakewood Village has not been spared as there have been a few car burgluries. Lets do all we can to make sure no more crime affects us locally by keeping in mind these best practicies:

1. Always lock your car doors.
2. Never leave anything of value in your.
3. Keep things of value out of sight while they are in your car.
4. Keep your car in your garage when possible.
5. Close your garage door.
6. Keep your home locked at all times (doors and windows).
7. Do not leave hidden key under the Welcome mat. Everyone knows to look there. Be creative if you must hide a key.
8. Trim the brush from around your windows and doors for better visibility from all angles.
9. Make sure your outside lighting is working (motion sensors, bulbs, etc.)
10. Call the Leon County Sheriff's office (922-3300) whenver anything seems strange. Remember that it's their job to figure out what's pertinent. It's our job to report it. You can also call your Crime Watch Block Captain.

Be safe and be vigilant!

On the back of the map is a Crime Watch Call Card that provides a convenient means to collect and make readily available the name, address, and home/work phone numbers of your immediately adjacent neighbors.
Both of these documents are available here for printing. Note that phone numbers are not included due to privacy concerns.

SCOOTERS, ATVs and "GO PEDS"
Motorized scooters also known as "Go Peds", "Go Carts" and ATVs that a lot of kids and a few adults are noisily buzzing otherwise quite neighborhood streets with are by Florida law prohibited from being operated on the public streets or on sidewalks.
REPORT TRAFFIC
VIOLATIONS ON-LINE
TO LCSO
The scooters, ATVs, go-carts, etc. are defined by statute as motor vehicles but, since they can't be registered, they can't be driven on the street. Since they are motor vehicles, they can't be driven on the sidewalk either. That leaves only privately owned parking lots, driveways or other similar privately owned places. If it has a motor on it and does not have a license plate, it's illegal to operate anywhere but private property.
The illegal use of these motor vehicles on public streets may be reported to the Leon County Sheriff's office 922-3300. or on-line.
